Passenger numbers continue to increase across MAG airports in May

Passenger numbers across the UK’s largest group of airports continued to climb in May, as the sector’s recovery from the pandemic continues.

Manchester Airports Group (MAG) which owns Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands Airports served 4.6 million passengers last month, representing 82% of traffic seen in May 2019.

Traffic figures published by the Group showed that both Manchester and London Stansted served more than two million passengers each, equating to 82% and 83% of passengers seen in May 2019, respectively. East Midlands Airport’s recovery also continues at pace, serving 70% of pre-pandemic traffic.

MAG recently welcomed plans from the Government to bring forward ways to speed up the lengthy vetting process involved in recruiting people to work in aviation, in order to help the sector get ready for peak summer season. The Group recently revealed it had more than 700 people in the vetting process for roles across its three airports, with thousands more awaiting clearance to work for airlines, ground handlers and other companies.

MAG CEO Charlie Cornish said: “Recovery across all three of our airports continues to be strong, and we are working hard to ensure every one of our passengers has a positive experience.

“We were pleased to hear the Government proposing measures to help with our recruitment efforts, and we call on these to be implemented as soon as possible.”
