As aviation remains one of the hardest hit sectors of the UK economy, MAG airports continue to serve significantly fewer passengers than in recent years, with its rolling 12-month total for passenger travel down by 56.3%.
Ongoing restrictions on travel have been in place for the whole of the aviation industry’s summer season, and prospects for a strong recovery over the next 12 months have declined as the virus has re-emerged across the UK and Europe and slow progress has been made on a travel testing regime.
With passengers still facing a 14-day quarantine period when returning home from almost all popular holiday destinations, and consequent overall drop in demand for air travel, MAG’s total passenger numbers for September this year dropped by 77.1% compared 2019.
East Midlands and London Stansted Airport continue to see a strong cargo performance, this month up 31.5% and 22.4% respectively on 2019. The upward trend in online shopping continues to fuel the demand for pure freight services.
