MAG airports continue to serve significantly fewer passengers than in recent years, with MAG’s three airports serving 84.0% fewer passengers in October 2020 than they did in October 2019, and its rolling 12-month total for passenger travel now down by 63.5%

The figures were expected, given the re-emergence of coronavirus across the UK and Europe and continued slow progress on establishing a travel testing regime. In October, passengers faced a 14-day quarantine period when returning home from almost all popular holiday destinations.

With a total ban on non-work related international travel now in place, MAG expects figures for November 2020 to be significantly worse still.

It has called for an urgent package of support for the UK aviation industry from Government, including relief from business rates, policing costs and other fixed cost pressures.

East Midlands and London Stansted Airport continue to see strong cargo performance, this month up 11.8% and 22.5% respectively on 2019. The upward trend in online shopping continues to fuel the demand for pure freight services.
