Traffic figures at all MAG airports were still severely impacted by the outbreak of Covid-19 in July, as travel restrictions and a dramatic reduction in demand for flights impacted the Group’s passenger numbers. The figures are a reflection of world trends, with some indications of recovery already seen at the airports in the last couple of months. In July total passenger figures were 158.9% higher than June.

Overall, MAG airports saw passenger figures reduced by 86.5% year-on-year in July, with MAG’s three airports serving 879,974 passengers between them, compared with 6.5 million in July 2019.

At London Stansted Airport and East Midlands Airport, cargo figures showed strong growth (STN: +43.6%, EMA: 21.1%) due to increased demand of pure cargo flights. Key operators added additional services to fly essential goods to the UK, adapt to the shifting consumer preference of online shopping as well as the new way air freight was managed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
