Traffic figures at all MAG airports were still impacted by the collapse of Thomas Cook Airlines in December, which was reflected in a year-on-year decline in passenger numbers at two MAG airports London Stansted (-1.2%) and East Midlands (-10.4%) – and a small year-on-year growth at Manchester (0.5%).
However, Manchester and London Stansted both still served more passengers in the last 12 months than they had in the previous 12 months. Overall, MAG airports served 62.2m passengers in the year to December 2019, up 1.7% on the previous year.
East Midlands Airport’s rolling 12 month passenger performance decreased by 3.9% in December, partly due the loss of Thomas Cook and BMI Regional, as well as reduced capacity by Flybe. However, cargo performance at the UK’s largest airport for pure cargo aircraft defied market trends and increase by 1% to 32,177 tonnes.
