A record July for MAG as summer holidays start

  • 6.7m passengers chose one of MAG’s airports for the start of the summer holidays
  • MAG has welcomed 65.6m passengers across the rolling 12-months
  • Operational performance remained strong as the summer holidays started

A strong start to the summer holidays drove MAG to a record passenger performance in July.

The group - which operates Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands Airports - saw 6.7m passengers pass through its terminals, an increase of 1.7% year-on-year.

MAG also celebrated a rolling 12-month total of 65.6m passengers, up 4.2% year-on-year.

Manchester Airport saw an increase of 3.1% across the month of July, serving 3.3m passengers during July. The month saw 60,000 departing passengers on Friday 25th July, a first for the airport.

Across the rolling 12-month period, 31.6m passengers have used the Northern hub.

London Stansted also saw an increase of 0.9% in July, with a record-breaking 2.9m passengers flying though. Across the rolling 12-month period, 29.9m passengers chose the London airport, an increase of 2.9% year-on-year.

East Midlands Airport served more than 509,000 passengers in July. Cementing its position as the UK’s largest pure freight hub, the airport saw a 19.1% increase in cargo year-on-year, with more than 35,000 tonnes handled in July.

Operational performance remained strong as passengers set off for the all-important summer getaway. Manchester and East Midlands Airport saw 99% of passengers passing through security in 15 minutes or less. While London Stansted saw 98%.
